With respect to pimps, we need legislation that provides the tools to address those situations where the sex trade workers are in fear of their pimps or where they are children and simply do not understand the situation they are in. With respect to johns, they include exploiters, abusers, and predators who seek out the sex trade workers to victimize them. Whether the sex trade worker is on the street or in a massage parlour or elsewhere, the johns are always there, and we need legislative tools to deal with them. The networks really rob the prostitutes they control; they take all their earnings, leaving the prostitutes forever in debt and thus captive to the networks. The reality of prostitution: physical constraints, sometimes extreme violence, sexual exploitation, and seizure of the earnings a disturbing, dirty reality that some try to mask behind a glamorous facade. proxénète en vi va n t avec une a u t r e prostituée. My name is John Maloney. We did not agree on increasing penalities, as we believed that they were generally adequate and that in some cases increases would be counterproductive. For instance, an increased penalty for section 213 would more likely be used against women selling sex than against men who buy sex. We looked at other legal strategies at the provincial and municipal levels and again found no easy answers, as many of these strategies would involve local enforcement efforts leading simply to displacement. We agreed on the need for social interventions, such as supports for sex workers and community mediation to address problems in neighbourhoods. In considering the question of decriminalization and legalization or regulation, we found pros and cons for both, and I believe youre already aware of all of these arguments. During, raised the issue of Maisons Tolérées in Parliament to after the intervention of the. Further questions were raised in Parliament after the invasion, to ensure such local practises and medical precautions were continued. There is one premise that solves the confusion about how to approach prostitution, and that is that non-monogamy is an aspect of sexual orientation. All prostitutes cite economic reasons, and its true that nobody wants to be a prostitute. But if you are female, a polyamorous heterosexual, and youre poor, you have to be some kind of prostitute because free love is a nightmare. Polygamy is the other polyamorous escape from free love, but its also illegal. We have to stop punishing people for non-monogamy, and Canada is perfectly poised to take the lead in creating international standards Ms. Scarlett Lake: I interview the ladies and ask them what they are open to, and we go through a list of possible things that might be asked for or expected or wondered about. I find out where they stand and then I try to match them with clients who are comfortable with the same set of restrictions. I wanted to quickly say, before I hear your answers, that I listened to two women last night, and one of them said to me-and I saw her later on, on the street actually-I am ashamed to speak about this because I dont want my children to know what I do, but if I dont do it I cant feed my children and I cant give them the things they need. Vivastreet is owned by a company called W3 Ltd, this company is incorporated in Jersey, and 90 of the shares are owned by a company named ELCAN Nominees Ltd, which has been mentioned in the Panama Papers scandal ; there are several sister companies linked to Vivastreet, like WebDM UK, DM Services, Digital Ventures Holding, IVI Ltd, but all these companies seem to be shell companies. Behind this line up of shell companies is the creator of Vivastreet, Yannick Pons, who is listed in the 500 wealthiest people in France. He is French, but his companies are registered at different foreign locations, like London and Jersey, and for a while he lived and worked in the US. Its a very complicated, opaque organization. Recently, the company W3 has even started an investment fund to support start up companies. I think bawdy houses fall under that description. I think any move towards that will actually feed women to more dangerous men and feed women into more violent situations. Ill leave it at that, but I want you to remember Serena, a first nations woman, a volunteer, a caring woman, who is dead now because we didnt act. We can act, and I hope we will act. We need to show leadership at the federal level on this issue and we need to work together federally, provincially, and municipally. But symbolism at what cost? In 2003, the French parliament approved an anti-soliciting law enabling police to arrest prostitutes. The upshot was the dispersal of streetwalkers to remoter suburbs of cities, where they were more isolated and exposed to danger. More importantly their remoteness hampered health services and prostitute support associations from maintaining contact with them, leaving streetwalkers further at risk of disease, injury, ignorance about their rights, and the like. Almost all members of the French Assembly favored revoking the anti-soliciting law; almost all agreed with comments by Minister of Womens Rights Najat Vallaud-Belkacem: the law had created avoidance strategies by prostitutes that were very damaging to their health and the public health.

[1
